CAPTAIN COOPER'S RAMBLE. English, Slip Jig (9/8 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was originally published by Charles and Samuel Thompson in their Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773), although dance directions appear in the Thompson's 24 Country Dances for the Year 1768. As with many of the Thompson's 1773 tunes, it was entered into the 1788 music manuscript copybook of fiddlers John and William Pitt Turner (Norwich, Conn.).
