The jig "Carlton House" appeared, nearly simultaneously, in the music manuscript collections of John Rook (Waverton, near Wigton, Cumbria, 1840) and William Irwin (Lake District, c. 1838), and in George P. Knauff's American publication Virginia Reels, albeit in the latter volume it appeared under the title "Fox Hunt (2) (The)."
