CHAMPAGNE POLKA. English, Polka. England, Yorkshire. B Flat Major ('A' and 'C' parts), G Minor ('B' part), E Flat Major ('D', 'E' and 'F' parts). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDDEEFF. Austrian classical composer Johann Strauss II (1825-1899) composed a scerz-polka (joke-polka) called "The Champagne Polka", the music evoking the uncorking of champagne bottles--however, it is not the same tune as contained in the Leadley manuscript.

Source for notated version: a MS collection by fiddler Lawrence Leadley, 1827-1897 (Helperby, Yorkshire) [Merryweather & Seattle].

Printed source: Merryweather & Seattle (The Fiddler of Helperby), 1994; No. 104, p. 58.
