COAL CREEK WALTZ. American, Waltz (3/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. This waltz melody was in the repertory of fiddler and banjo player Roscoe Parish (1897-1984), who built the instruments that he played. As the waltz was unnamed, it was christened "Coal Creek Waltz" by Gerard, Gillespie & Sandomirsky after the name of the community in which Parish and his younger sister Leone (1902-1988) lived, southeast of Galax, in southwestern Virginia.
