COONEY[1]IN THE HOLLER. American. According to Cecilia Conway (1995) "Cooney in the Holler" was a popular dance tune in the early 19th century in Philadelphia and the Five Points dance halls and dives of New York. See note for apparent variant "Possum up a Gum Tree (and Cooney in the Holler)."
