CORONET, THE. Scottish, Reel and Country Dance Tune (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody and dance figure appear in the Bodleian Manuscript (1740), in the Bodleian Library, Oxford. It is inscribed "A Collection of the Newest Country Dances Performed in Scotland written at Edinburgh by D.A. Young, W.M. 1740." Edinburgh fiddler and writing master Young also included it in his Collection of Scotch Airs with the latest Variations, AKA - The McFarlane Manuscript (c. 1741, No. 135, p. 192).
