CRÈME DE MENTHE. AKA and see "Democratic Rage Hornpipe." French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Crème de Menthe" is J.A. Boucher's version of the "Democratic Rage Hornpipe" found in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883). It is not the only version of the tune in Québecois repertory; there are several[1]. Joseph Allard recorded his version under the title "Reel du Pêcheur (Victor 263514) in 1928, although his is not the same variant as Boucher's. However, in his 1927 unpublished version of his music collection Boucher titled the reel "Le vieux pêcheur (The Old Fisherman), an intriguingly similar title to Allard's.
