DARK, PLAINTIVE YOUTH, THE. AKA and see "The Dark-Visaged Lad O'Gloran." Irish, Planxty (4/4 time). D Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The tune is often attributed to blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738), although Donal O'Sullivan, in his definitive 1958 work on the bard, could find no evidence that Carolan composed either words or melody, and concluded that it was a doubtful attribution. The English title "Dark-Visaged Lad O'Gloran" is a miss-translation by P.W. Joyce of the Irish Giolla Dubh a glamharáin (Glorane).
