DEAR WHITE-BACKED BROWN COW [1], THE (Drimín Donn Dílis). Irish, Slow Air (6/8 time). D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'. "Dr. Petrie has published the Ulster version of this air, with the Irish words, in his Ancient Music of Ireland (p. 115): I have given a Munster version (also with the Irish words) in my Irish Music and Song (p. 38). The Munster version I five here differs from both, and is very characteristic and beautiful. The others end at 'A': but the rune is repeated here with some modifications" (Joyce). See also O'Neill's variants "Faithful Brown Cow (1) (The)," and "Faithful Brown Cow (2) (The)."
