DENIS MURPHY'S SLIDE [1]. AKA and see "Dark Girl Dressed in Blue (4) (The)," "Dark Girl in Blue (1) (The)," "Girl in the Dress (The)," "Gleanntán Slide," "Julia Clifford's Slide (1)," "Murphy's Slide," "Napoleon Crossing the Alps (2)," "Pádraig O’Keeffe’s Slide (4)." Irish, Slide (12/8 time). Ireland, West Kerry. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. This slide is associated with Sliabh Luachra region (Cork-Kerry border) fiddler Denis Murphy [1] (1912-1974). For a reel setting of the tune see "New Post Office." See also the 2nd part of "Marquis of Huntly's Highland Fling (1) (The)," nearly identical with the first part of this slide (although some believe the both parts of each tune are related to the other, albeit with the parts reversed from one another), and the first strain of the English "Lily White." The reel "Flax in Bloom (The)" is a related melody.
