DEVIL'S DREAM (Old). AKA - "Divel's Dream (The)." English, Jig (6/4 or 6/8 time). G Dorian. AABB. Standard tuning (fiddle). This modal triple time jig was first printed in the 3rd edition of John Playford's Dancing Master (London, 1657, p. 118, as "Divel's Deam") and was retained in the long-running Dancing Master series of editions through the 18th and last volume, published in London by John Young in 1728. It also appears in Walsh's Compleat Country Dancing Master (London, editions of 1718, 1731 & 1754).
