DEXTER SMITH'S REEL. American, Reel (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Dexter Smith (1842-1909) was a prolific songwriter and blackface minstrel performer in the latter half of the 19th century. Smith was a Boston poet, lyricist, and critic who also published his own magazine from 1872 to 1877, and was a partner in the Boston music publishing firm of White, Smith & Company which issued sheet music and published industry journals, notably the monthly Folio (Smith was the first editor).
