DOON THE BURN DAVIE [1]. Scottish, Air. The tune appears in Thomson's Orpheus Caledonius (1725), attributed in the first edition to Queen Mary's secretary David Rizzio, also an accomplished lutenist and singer. The ascription was removed in later editions, and Rizzio's authorship is considered doubtful now. The melody was also published in Johnson's Scots Musical Museum, vol. 1 (1787, p. 75), Francis Peacock's Fifty Favourite Scotch Airs (London, c. 1762, p. 3), James Oswald's Caledonian Pocket Companion, Book 4 (London, 1760, 18–19), and other collections.
