DUKE OF GORDON AND HIS VOLUNTEERS, THE. Scottish. Glen (1891) finds the earliest appearance of this tune in print in Joshua Campbell's 1778 collection (p. 50), wherein is also contained other tunes honoring the units raised by the nobility--see "Duke of Hamilton and His Volunteers (The)" and "Duke of Buccleugh and His Fencibles (The)."
