DUNCAN MACQUARRIE STRATHSPEY, A. Canadian, Strathspey (whole time). Canada, Cape Breton. D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Fr. John Quinn suggests comparing this untitled strathspey with the related "College Grove (The)" and "Miss Corbett's Reel"[1]. According to Paul Cranford, "College Grove" was a favorite of Northside (Cape Breton) fiddler Bobby Stubbert, indicating the melodic material may have been in circulation on the island.
- ↑ Fr. Quinn helpfully explains the relationship: "The first bar can be seen as an aberration and replaced by the fifth bar, which then matches “Miss Corbett”. Bar by bar little adjustments, be it drop an octave or something similar, can show the continuing match right through and, as I noted, the “final variation”, dfeg fagb afge fdd2, puts the seal on the match in my estimation."
