DYING COON, THE. Old-Time, Fiddle Tune. USA, southwest Alabama. The tune, an improvised number, was played by African-American fiddler Jin Pritchett of Marengo County, Alabama, a slave, as recalled by Alfred Benners in Slavery and Its Results (1923) {Cauthen, 1990}.
