EXHIBITION HORNPIPE. AKA and see "Great Exhibition (The)." English, Hornpipe. England, Northumberland. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by the 19th century Gateshead, Northumberland, fiddler-composer James Hill, renowned for his hornpipes. While no one knows which 'exhibition' Hill referred to (he called the tune "Exhibition", not "Great Exhibition"), many associated it with the Great Exhibition in London in 1851. Since Hill died around 1853, this could be one of his later compositions.
