FAREWELL JOHN. American, Reel (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Farewell John" was transcribed by musician, entertainer and collector wikipedia:John Hartford (1937-2001) from the playing of Missouri fiddler Cleo Persinger (1909-1971) of Midway, mid-state Missouri, just west of Coumbia. It was Persinger who introduced his friend, a younger contemporary fiddler named Texas Shorty Chancellor, to Hartford with whom he latter subsequently collaborated. Hartford said Persinger was the only person either he or Shorty ever heard play the tune. Cleo won the National Fiddle Championship at Weiser, ID, in 1962.
