FAREWELL TO KINSALE. Irish, Slow Air (4/4 time). G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Long a port and garrison town, Kinsale, in Munster was the site of one of the most important battles in Irish history, on Christmas Eve, 1601, the turning point of the Nine Years War. It was at Kinsale that Hugh O'Neill attacked the English who were besieging his Spanish allies, and he was soundly defeated. Limerick, a rambling working man with a great knowledge of Irish airs and songs, and much natural musical taste" (Joyce).
