FAREWELL TO PEGGY. Irish, Air (4/4 time). G Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Learned by Joyce in his boyhood in Limerick during the 1840's. Cowdery (1990) finds the first part of the melody cognate with the first part of the air "Moorland Shore (The)," and thus an expansion/contraction of the central motifs of the old ballad air "Boyne Water (1)."
