FAVOURITE DUET BY MR. HOLMES, A. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "A Favourite Duet by Mr. Holmes" was entered in the mid-19th century music manuscript of William Winter (1774-1861), a shoemaker and violin player who lived in West Bagborough in Somerset, southwest England. Winter researcher Geoff Woolfe suggests the title may refer to William Henry Holmes of New York, an arranger of songs published in the Musical Bijou (1842).
