FIFE REEL, THE. Irish, Reel (whole time). A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "The Fife Reel" is a variant of "Floggin' (The)" that was entered into the music manuscript collection in the possession of Rev. Luke Donellan, a fiddler and cleric of South Ulster's Oriel region. Donellan researcher Gerry O'Connor believes the ms. is not the collecting work of Donellan himself but rather that the ms. was the work of an unknown but competent musician and represents a lifetime's playing repertory, with the ms. later coming into the possession of Donellan.
