FLANDERS MERCHANT, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The melody with directions for a country dance were first published in John Hinton's periodical The Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure (April, 1753, p. 174). As with many of the country dances first printed by Hinton, it was subsequently republished by John Johnson in his 200 Favorite Country Dances, vol. 7 (London, 1756)
