FYE FOR SHAME. English, Country Dance Tune (whole time). E Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. There is another, different tune by this title in Longman and Broderip's Compleat Collection of 200 Favorite Country Dance (1781). The phrase "Fye for Shame" appears in the Bible and in a number of 18th century songs, including the oft-reprinted "O fye for shame", "sung by Mr. Vernon, at Vauxhall." It begins:

As thro' the grove I chanc'd to stray,
