GAL WITH THE BLUE DRESS ON [2], THE. American, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is often credited to Thomas F. Briggs, in whose collection it appears (Briggs' Banjo Instructor, 1855, Oliver Ditson Co., Boston). There is no composer attribution with the tune itself, but the frontispiece to the volume indicates that tunes in it were composed or arranged by Briggs. From Brigg's original title, "Gal Wid De Blue Dress On," the tune was intended for the minstrel stage.
