GALOPEDE QUADRILLE [1] LA PONTOLON. English, Quadrille (2/4 time). ABCA. "Galopede Quadrille [1] La Pontonlon" is contained in the mid-19th century music manuscript of William Winter[1] (1774-1861), a shoemaker and violin player who lived in West Bagborough in Somerset, southwest England. Winter entered all five parts of the quadrille, all in 2/4 time, but the first is the only named quadrille figure (i.e. "La Pontolon"). The galopade quadrille was a dance form popularized in the 1840's that married the steps of the gallop (AKA galopade) with the figures of the multi-part quadrille. There is no set music for the galopade quadrille, suitable tunes being left to the discretion of the musician(s).
