GERMAN LAIRDIE, THE. Scottish. According to the poet Robert Burns, who had it from "somebody who had it of (William) Marshall himself," this air provided the melodic material for three of the Scots composer's most celebrated tunes, "Marquis of Huntley's Reel (The)," "His Farewell," and "Miss Admiral Gordon's Reel/Strathspey."
