GUILDFORD ASSEMBLY. AKA and see "Miss Ray’s Jigg." English, Jig. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in Charles and Samuel Thompson's Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773), and Straight & Skillern's Two Hundred and Four Favourite Country Dances, vol. 1 (London, 1775). As with numerous other tunes from the Thompson's 1773 collection, it was entered into the 1788 music copybook of fiddlers John and William Pitt Turner (Norwich, Conn.). Guildford is a town in Surry.
