GUSTAVUS GALOP [1]. AKA - "Masquerade (The)." English, Galop (2/4 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB.
The melody is from French composer Daniel Auber's (1782-1871) opera Gustavus the Third, or, The Masked Ball (1833), from the ball scene. Music from the opera was arranged into a fashionable set of quadrilles, of which the galop entitled "The Masquerade" was the finale.
