HAWTHORN BLOSSOM, THE (Bláth na Sceiche Gile). AKA and see "Tom Fitzmorris's (1)." Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. A version of "Glen Allen" or "Kilmaley." The "Fitzmorris" title is from Chicago fiddler Liz Carroll, who had the tune from fellow Chicago fiddler Johnny McGreevy. Breathnach's source Tom Barrett called the tune "The Broken Pledge", but that name belongs to another melody, and editor Jackie Small chose to substitute the title "Hawthorn Blossom." The first strain is also shared with "J.J. Gardiner's" or "Gardiner's Favourite (1)", although the second parts differ.

Source for notated version: Tom Barrett, a fiddler from Listowel, County Kerry [Breathnach].

Printed sources: Breathnach (CRÉ V), 1999; No. 188. Flaherty (Trip to Sligo), 1994; p. 113 (appears as an untitled reel).
