HICKORY REEL. American, Reel (2/4 time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Michael Higgins, a musician who published a collection of original tunes in New York in 1829. Unfortunately, nothing is known of him. His "Hickory Hornpipe" may have been named in honor of Andrew Jackson, "Old Hickory," who became the seventh President of the United States in the same year that Higgins published his collection. Also contained in the collection is his "Jackson's Hornpipe (4)," perhaps also named in honor of the new leader.
