HOBBIE ELLIOT. AKA - "Hobby Elliot." AKA and see "Cannie Hobbie Elliot." Northumbrian, Slip Jig (9/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The title appears in Henry Robson's list of popular Northumbrian song and dance tunes ("The Northern Minstrel's Budget"), which he published c. 1800. The tune was entered into the c. 1812 music manuscript collection of Northumbrian musician John Bell [1] (1783-1864). Northumbrian musician William Vickers' "Cannie Hobbie Elliot" is a cognate, but distanced version.
