HONORABLE FRANCIS GRAY'S STRATHSPEY, THE. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). G Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABCCD. Lord Francis Gray (1765-1842), 14th Baronet, of Kinfauns Castle near Perth was a Scottish peer, politician and soldier, the youngest of twelve children. He succeeded to the title in 1807 on the death of his brother, the same year he became Deputy Postmaster General in Scotland (serving until 1810). He sat in the House of Lords from 1812-1841. In 1812 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and served as the Society's Vice President from 1815-1823. In 1816 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, and was elected President of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland for the term 1819-1823.

In 1794 he wed Mary Ann Johnston, daughter of Lt. Col. James Johnston, and together the couple had three daughters and one son (John Gray, 15th Lord Gray). See "Honorable Mr. Gray's Strathspey/Honorable Mrs. F. Gray" for another melody dedicated to the family.
