HOOK'S CONTRA DANCE. American(?), Contra Dance Tune (6/8 time). The melody appears in the music manuscript copybook (c. 1810) of Ann Winnington, a resident of New York City. The title probably refers to James Hook (1746-1827), a prolific and famous composer and concertizer who held tenure at several of London's fashionable pleasure gardens as organist.
