HUNT THE HARE [1]. English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was first published in Charles and Samuel Thompson's Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773)-the pair published a different tune by the same title in their vol. 4 (1780). It was entered into the manuscript collections of Northumbrian musician William Vickers (begun in 1770), and of flute player Ensign Thomas Molyneaux (Shelburne, Nova Scotia, 1788). See also the similarly titled, melodically and rhythmically different, "Hunting the Hare."
