HUNT THE HARE . English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was first published in Charles and Samuel Thompson's Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773)-the pair published a different tune by the same title in their vol. 4 (1780). It was entered into the manuscript collections of Northumbrian musician William Vickers (begun in 1770), and of flute player Ensign Thomas Molyneaux (Shelburne, Nova Scotia, 1788).
