ISLAND FERRY. Canadian, Reel or Hornpipe (2/4, cut or whole time). Canada, New Brunswick. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Moncton, New Brunswick, area fiddler Lionel Poirier (1934-1970), named after the ferry that links Nova Scotia with Prince Edward Island. Poirier played with numerous groups in the late 1940's and 1950's, and had a stint with Don Messer's Jubilee on CBC from Halifax. Later he joined the "Maritime Farmers" television show on CHSJ, where he stayed for a number of years.
