JANET BEATON. Canadian, Jig (6/8 time). Canada, Cape Breton. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed in the late 1940's by Cape Breton fiddler Angus Chisholm [1] (Inverness, Cape Breton, 1908-1979) for a member of the famous musical family of Mabou Coal Mines, Cape Breton.

The Cape Breton Symphony. Angus Chisholm is third from left.
Janet Beaton was playing the piano at a dance where Angus was composing the tune on the spot; she asked the name of the new tune and the fiddler christened it in her honor.
