JODIE. American, Reel (cut time). USA, West Virginia. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The source for the modal reel "Jodie" is fiddler Delbert Hughes (1905-1982), who made his living working as a coal miner in southern West Virginia at several several locations. He had been born in Jellico, Tennessee, and moved with his family to Kentucky, where he learned to fiddle as a boy. By 1935 Hughes had removed to Kanawha County, West Virginia, where he remained for the rest of his life. Milnes suspects the title of the tune might be the name of one of the small mining camps in the area.
