JOHNNY'S GONE TO FRANCE [1]. English, New England; Reel. E Aeolian (Em). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is a version of John McKenna's "Maids of Galway (2) (The)." More distantly, it is a member of the "Old Maids of Galway (The)" or "Ballina Lass" tune family. A distanced version is to be found in the c. 1865 music manuscript collection of the Gunn Family of County Fermanagh under the title "Johnny going to France."
