JOHNNY HAND'S. American, Jig. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by J. Hand himself as the initials "J.H." are printed with the tune in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883). New York City researcher, writer and musician Don Meade believes James (Jimmy) and (Johnny) John Hand may have been brothers (or perhaps father-son) and fiddlers from Boston, Massachusetts, in the mid-19th century. Conor Ward finds reference to a John Hand who composed some tunes in 19th cent. County Leitrim, although no connection has been established. There are several tunes attributed to the Hands in Ryan's.
