Levey, in who collection this tune was first published, was the professional name of Dublin-born Richard Michael O'Shaughnessy (1811-1899), a professional, classically trained, violinist and professor of music. The first strain is also shared with "One-Horned Cow (1) (The)." A version of the tune was also entered in the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper James Goodman (Goodman also entered another tune with this title in his mss. for which see "Kissing and Drinking (5)."
