KITTY IN THE LANE . AKA and see "High Road to Linton." Scottish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The reel is attributed to the mysterious "W.J." in publisher James Alexander's Alexander's 50 New Scotch & Irish Reels & Hornpipes (c. 1826), although it is clearly a version of the probably older "High Road to Linton." "W.J." is credited with a half-dozen tunes in the volume, which was edited by a "professional musician," who is presumably "W.J." himself. Some of the tunes attributed to him are either adaptations of older tunes, or use strains from older tunes.
