LADY GRAY. Scottish, Strathspey. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABCCD. Composed by Nathaniel Gow (1763-1807). The melody honors Mary-Anne, Dowager Lady Gray, daughter of Lieutenant Colonel James Johnston, who in 1794 married Francis, Fourteenth Lord Gray. She lived long, born prior to 1779, and died on the last day of the year 1858. The seat of the family was Kinfauns Castle, on the River Tay, 3 miles from Perth.
