LADY MARY STOPFORD. Scottish, Canadian; Reel. Canada, Cape Breton. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Surenne): AAB (Campbell, Gow, Skye): AABB' (Kerr). Composed by Perthshire composer Malcolm Macdonald in honor of Lady Mary Scott (1769-1823), eldest daughter of Sir Henry Scott, 3rd Duke of Buccleugh and Lady Elizabeth Montagu. She married James George Stopford, 3rd Earl of Courtown (Gorey, County Wexford, Ireland), in 1791, and they had five children--the eldest two sons died in infancy. Lady Mary Stopford was a Lady of the Bedchamber to the Duchess of Kent.
