LADY MAXWELL. AKA - "Lady Maxwell's Rant," "Lady Maxwell's Reel." Scottish, Jig (6/8 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. John Glen (1891) finds the earliest appearance of this tune in print in biography:Joshua Campbell's 1778 collection (p. 25). Campbell also included a version of the same tune in his 1789 collection (as he did with several others from his first collection) under the title "Lady Maxwell's Reel." The word 'reel' in this context describes the dance performed to the tune, which is a 6/8 time jig melody.
