LAFFERTY'S. AKA and see "Crane's Leg (The)," "Glen of Aherlow (2) (The)," "Laverty's Reel," "Rattigan's Reel (2)," "Reancy's Long Reel," "Rediggan's," "Woman I Never Forgot (The)." Irish, Reel. E Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by County Tipperary fiddler Seán Ryan (d. 1985) as "Glen of Aherlow (2) (The)." The "Lafferty's" title is the one Kevin Burke used on recordings, although Martin Byrne also used the title on his recording "Paddy in the Smoke." The title "Lafferty's" for the tune comes from the recording by Clare fiddlers Paddy Caney and P.J. Hayes (on "All Ireland Champions-Violin"), a name that honors the pianist on the record, Bridie Lafferty. The "Rattigan" and "Rediggan" titles stem from association with the mid-20th century Dublin-born Irish-American fiddler and banjo player Larry Redican.
