John Glen (1891) finds the earliest printing of the tune in Joshua Campbell's 1778 collection (p. 4). The tune was also entered into volume 4 of the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork Church of Ireland cleric and uilleann piper James Goodman (musicologist).
