LAST SATURDAY NIGHT AS I LAY IN MY BED. Irish, Air (6/8 time). E Flat Major/Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. "A white-boy song" [Petrie]. The "White Boys" were an 19th century Irish political society, usually secret, and one of many polictical groups of the era whose purpose it was to conduct a clandestine campaign against English rule of the country. Other such organizations carried the names Houghers, Ribbon Boys, United Irishmen, Fenians, etc., but the White Boys were particularly strong in Tipperary.
