LIEUTENANT MACGUIRE'S JIG. AKA – "Lt. MacGuire's Jig," "MacGuire's Jig." Scottish, Jig. B Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. Composed by Duncan Johnstone. The first strain of "First of May (The)", found in Gunn's Caledonian Repository of Music (1848) and David Glen's Edinburgh Collection Book 2 (c. 1904), is nearly identical with this tune.
