LIFE IS LIKE A SEA IN CONSTANT MOTION. English, March. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Source for notated version: the c. 1800 music copybook of ship's fiddler William Litten, who eventually settled in Martha's Vineyard [Huntington, Miller].

Source for notated version: Ship's fiddler William Litten, who compiled his manuscript music book during a voyage with the East India Fleet from 1800-1802. Unfortunately, little is known about Litten. The manuscript came into the possession of mariner Allen Coffin, who may or may not have been a shipmate, who brought it back with him when he returned to his home in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts , early in the 19th century [Huntington].

Printed sources: Huntington (William Litten's Tune Book), 1977; p. 45. Miller (Fiddler's Throne), 2004; No. 244, p. 202.
